Thanksgiving for Rev Joseph Gilbert's Life
December 17, 2006

While it rained the night before, Sunday December 17th was a bright and sunny day.  Rev Troy drove down to San Diego to participate in the Thanksgiving service that Rev Joseph had designed to bring friends and family together after his homegoing.

Rev Perry arrived in time to attend the 11am worship service at MCC San Diego - and then it was time to prepare for the service.  (Please note that these photos are a bit dark and have a distinct cast to them.  This is the result of not using flash during the ceremony).

Rev Joseph was survived by his sister Lovedy Brydon (in red) and his brother (his brother's wife in the center).

The service opened with piping of Amazing Grace.

The sanctuary was full of friends, family and love for this pioneer of our liberation history. (Read more of Rev Gilbert's activism - and see more photos of Joseph.)
The impressive collection of clergy and laiety processed in.  Some faces hadn't been seen in many years - and were glad reminders of our collective history.

The musicians blessed us mightily with their instrumentation.
