The Burning of 22nd and Union

January 27, 1973

The now famous photograph of Rev Perry in the ashes of 22nd and Union

Not quite two years after we moved in to our first home, it was destroyed by arson on a Saturday night, January 27, 1973.  Rev Perry flew home from Denver that night and services were held the very next day ... in the street outside the destroyed building.  "We will survive" was Rev Perry's only comment to the reporter from the Advocate who asked, "What next"?

There are more photos of the post arson scene here.
